Wexford, PA

When the homeowner of this Wexford property began thinking about improving his backyard, he was starting from scratch. He had seen one of our past projects and liked what we had built, but he had never taken on a renovation before and wasn’t sure where to begin. Like many first-time renovators, he needed guidance through the entire process — from understanding design options to making decisions about layout, materials, and functionality. We were there to help.

Our team worked closely with him to explore all possibilities and gradually develop a vision for the space. The backyard itself was disjointed and underutilized, with overgrown areas and little structure tying the outdoor spaces together. The goal became clear: create a cohesive outdoor environment that would make the yard more functional while also providing comfortable space for relaxing and entertaining.

Designing a Space That Works Together

One of the homeowner’s preferences was the look and feel of a traditional deck — including railings and defined spaces — even though the yard itself was a walk-out grade where a typical deck wasn’t necessary. To achieve the design he wanted, we constructed a ground level deck that incorporates many of the visual and functional elements of a standard raised deck, creating the aesthetic he liked while working naturally with the property’s layout.

The project ultimately evolved into a multi-zone outdoor living space that feels connected and intentional. A covered area now provides comfortable shelter from the elements, creating a place where the family can relax outdoors regardless of weather. Adjacent to the covered area, an uncovered space expands the entertaining space and allows for more flexibility when hosting friends and family.

Stairs connect the covered area to the basement, improving circulation throughout the property and tying previously separate areas of the yard together.

Guiding the Process From Start to Finish

Because the homeowner was navigating his first renovation, the design process included several changes and refinements as the project progressed. Our team worked closely with him throughout the build, adapting the design and adjusting along the way to ensure the final result reflected what he envisioned for the space.

What began as a simple backyard improvement gradually grew into a larger, more cohesive outdoor living project. Over the course of six weeks, the property was transformed from a fragmented backyard into a unified outdoor environment that is both functional and inviting.

Building Relationships That Last

Projects like the Greenbriar ground level deck are about more than construction — they’re about building relationships with homeowners and helping them feel confident throughout the process. During the project, the homeowner experienced an unrelated plumbing issue inside the home and reached out to our team for guidance. We walked him through the insurance process and the steps needed to address the damage, ensuring everything was handled smoothly.

Supporting homeowners when unexpected challenges arise is simply part of how we approach our work. For us, every project is an opportunity to build trust and provide long-term support, not just complete a construction job.

Today, the Greenbriar ground level deck project provides the homeowner with a comfortable covered outdoor retreat, an expanded entertaining area, and a backyard that finally works as one cohesive space.
